Tom Prendergast

Tom was in the Information Technology field for 18 years and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology from UMass – Lowell. He was looking for a change and realized that his true passion was working with dogs; so he began walking for BlueDog. Tom is very familiar with BlueDog as he, his wife Jillian, and dog Maverick are former graduates of BlueDog Academy! He loves being a part of the BlueDog family and enjoys hanging out with all of his four-legged buddies! Tom loves being able to bring a little joy and fun to each dog just by taking them for a walk each day.

Tom’s training journey began when he started assisting classes about six months after he started working for BlueDog. He became more and more interested in dog behavior and teaching while he was assisting. One night, he decided to teach a College class and the rest, as they say, is history! Tom is very excited to be part of the training team at BlueDog and looks forward to working with your dogs. He believes that he brings unique knowledge and perspective to training as he can approach it through the eyes of both client and trainer. Tom also really enjoys spending time with dogs of all ages in class; watching them learn and helping them work toward becoming the best pups possible! He is constantly learning and reading up on new subjects in order to help you and your dog succeed on your own training journey! Tom is a certified AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Evaluator and is working towards his Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) certification. He is also a proud member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC) and The Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT).

When Tom is not training or walking dogs, he is involved with his other passion; rescuing dogs. Tom rescued his dog, Maverick, a German Shepherd/Boxer mix, from Pet Tails Rescue; a non-profit animal rescue in Northwood, NH. After adopting her, Tom became involved with fundraising and publishing a quarterly newsletter for Pet Tails. He served on the Board of Directors for Pet Tails as the Director of Communications and Public Affairs for three years. He enjoyed his time on the Board and was able to learn even more about animal behavior and worked tirelessly to make sure every dog that arrived at Pet Tails found the loving home that each pet truly deserves. His time at Pet Tails also helped build his sense of compassion that he brings to his training. Tom is looking forward to becoming involved with a shelter or rescue again in the future.

Besides hanging out and playing with his sidekick, Maverick; Tom also enjoys hiking and the outdoors mostly in North Conway, NH, listening to music and hanging out with friends and family by the firepit in his backyard!
